OK, here is the route! Details on exactly when we'll meet/ride are still up-in-the-air per the email everyone received Monday evening. I'll post those final details once we've come to a decision that best fits everyone's schedule and wishes.

  1. We will park at Club 37. (For you GPS users: 3803 N M37, Baldwin) Club 37 is exactly 6 miles north of US10 (East) on M37, and on the West (left) side of the road.
  2. There is NOT a gas station at this location, so please fuel up prior to arrival. There is NOT a gas station along our route for the first 70 miles either. (There is a Wesco in Baldwin on your way through...)
  3. We will head straight West along route 35, turning north at route 340/3.
  4. We will head north on route 340/3 until it meets route 36/3/345.
  5. We will then head east on route 36 until it again joins with route 35.
  6. Route 35 heading north will take us to Hobart.
  7. At Hobart we will connect with route 5, heading south to LeRoy.
  8. In LeRoy, we will stop for Fuel.
  9. We will have Lunch at Mr. Pibs Restaurant. This will be a reserved, full menu luncheon for us all to sit & eat as a group. We are each on our own for our meal cost. NO alcoholic drinks.
  10. Once gassed up and stomachs full, we will continue south on route 5 to Reed City.
  11. At Reed City, we will connect with route 30 taking it west to Baldwin.
  12. In Baldwin, we will again connect with route 3, taking it north, back to 340 & 35, and eventually back to Club 37.
  13. Those wishing to stay & eat may, but there will NOT be an organized dinner.
We will be closely monitoring the trail conditions and reports right up to that date, and calls will be made to the trail bosses for last minute conditions or changes that might affect our route. In the event of poor snow conditions, an email will be sent a day or more prior to our Ride, and we will reconvene 2 weeks later on Saturday February 13th.

THINK SNOW & please remember Jerry's wife & family as they continue to cope with his death during this first holiday season without him.

RIDE DETAILS!!

Hi everyone, only 6 weeks to go!! As the date gets closer, I will email all of you [that I have addresses for] to RSVP so we know who is coming. If you have not yet received an email from me, my email is ridetoremember@att.net. This will allow us to set up everyone with a "buddy" for safety reasons, and also to give the Restaraunt a number for dinner that evening.

We will all meet at Club 37, just 10 minutes north of Baldwin on M37 no later than 9am on Saturday, January 30th. They have a large parking area and this is where we will eat at the end of the trip. We will leave as a group at 9:30am SHARP. You need to be unloaded, geared up, gassed up, and ready to RIDE at 9:30. We will (most likely) head north to Wellston, East to Cadillac (for Lunch), South to Reed City, West to Baldwin, and finally north back to Club 37 (for Dinner).

Rod and I sat down and figured out a preliminary route for the Ride last night. He and I plan to ride the route the Sunday after Christmas to be sure that it will be a suitable ride for the group. We are initially thinking to have the group meet at Club 37 on M37 just north of Baldwin on the 30th @ 9am, leaving at 9:30am sharp as a group riding north on 3 toward Wellston, then East on 6 toward Cadillac for Lunch, South on 5 toward Baldwin, and then the final leg on 3 back to Club 37 for a nice dinner before heading home. Our plan is to confirm this by riding it, then scanning the maps and attaching them to this Blog so all of you can see the route before riding it. Paper maps will be on sale the morning of the ride as well. Stay tuned!!

I had a great conversation with Sharon Flewelling out of the Wellston area on Tuesday.  She is the President of the Cadillac Winter Warriors Snowmobile club there and she too was excited the lengths that we're going to help commemorate a dear friend & snowmobiler.  She is also sending us a couple maps of the Cadillac area to help us better plan this trip.  She even gave me the home number to Bill Bradfield, the founder of the MichCanSka charity ride for Diabetes!! Some of you SnowGoer Readers might remember his write-up in this months issue, titled "An Adventures Dream".  Kinda cool, huh?!?!  I look forward to talking to him real soon...

The snow is falling!!!  Will it stick???  Will it stay???  Let's hope so!!!

THINK SNOW!!!

Friday, December 4, 2009

Wow, what a wonderfully white winter wonderland to wake up to!!!  Trail reports for the Wellston area calling for up to 7", so this should be the start of something great!!

I had a great conversation with Fred Gross of the Baldwin Trailriders Club yesterday.  He's excited to donate a Baldwin area Map to use to plan our trip next month, and really appreciates what we're doing to remember Jerry.  He offered up a great bunch of advice on where to trailer to, ride to, and eat at along our route.  In fact, the route that he suggests (Baldwin to Cadillac to Wellston and back to Baldwin) is a favorite ride of he and his family.  They take it often from their cabin near Big Star Lake, and is a great "day" ride for a group of avid sledders.  It's got some tight and twisty's with some long rail grade straights to help get the carbon cleaned out too!

I'll be making calls to the Cadillac and Wellston area Clubs too to see if they will donate us some maps and advice as well.  Well, keep checking back often as I will be updating this Blog regularly with comments pertaining to Jerry's Ride.  I'm hoping to sit down next week with Scott & Rod Pell to iron out some details!!

THINK SNOW!!!

Well, December is here, and looks like so is Winter!!  Let's hope we have a good one!!  Keeping in mind that the info on this page is still very tentative, I have changed the date of the ride to January 30th due to a currently scheduled event for the Cadet Counselors that are planning to join us, (with a BACK-UP DATE of February 13).  Keep checking back to this site, maybe add it to your Favorites, and the finalized information will be posted as it becomes available.  Thank you!

Well, the 1st of the big holidays is here and gone already.  Scott Pell was so kind to send us some more pics of him and Jerry (dad) on a recent ride...  I'm so ready for snow like the pictures show!!!  Have a great week everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!  Here's hoping that you are thankful for what you have, and the Good Lord continues to shower us with Blessings from Above!  Have a blessed day!

Snow showers possible today, with accumulating snow in the forecast for next week!!  Bring it!!  The 10-week countdown begins on Saturday...  I can't wait!!

Details are limited on the 2010 Ride to Remember just yet, but stay tuned to this Blog for up-to-date & last minute changes and revisions for times to meet, details of the ride, where we'll eat, etc...
As we continue to mourn from Jerry's recent passing, we can rejoice too in knowing that Jerry's second favorite sport behind summer water sports with his family, was to tear up a trail, or boondock through a forest, or bang a few ditches anywhere the snow would permit it!  Little did we know that Jerry would influence all of us to come together as a larger "family" of friends this snowmobiling season as motor-sport enthusiasts, joining in a "Ride to Remember" him and the life he so thoughtfully committed to his wife, son, daughter, granddaughter, nieces, nephews, brothers, sister, uncles, aunts, parents, etc, etc, etc.  I need not remind you that Jerry meant more than any words can say to all of us, and having us just saddle up and throw a leg over a sled, and rip across some snow-laden Michigan landscape in his honor would mean more to him than we could ever know.
